ABOUT

Maria Kerrn-Jespersen, has education in paper conservation and a graphic design.

Maria loves to transform paper into delicate, poetic expressions. She works along an intuitive process, where the start is a sheet of paper or a conceptual idea that triggers experimentation. Maria works without sketches or a visual idea of the outcome, allowing the material itself to guide the creation of forms and textures.

Precision and quality are central to her work. She uses thick, cotton-rich, acid-free paper. Cutting, folding, and shaping are the tools she uses, sometimes complemented with other materials as rubber and metal wire. Even the smallest gesture contributes to the emergence of intricate, layered compositions that feel simultaneously spontaneous and rigorously ordered.

She is using simple shapes which are repeated and then formed into complex arrangements that reveal new patterns and relationships with each viewing. Maria is fascinated with construction, repetition, and transformation that drives her to discover new ways of folding and cutting by seeking poetic expression in every piece.

Maria Kerrn-Jespersen lives 20 km north of Copenhagen and works in her studio connected to her private home.
